Female Artists And The Pay Gap

Did you know that only 13.7% of living artists represented by galleries in Europe and North America are women? Although circa 46% of working artists are female and circa 70% of degrees in Fine Arts are achieved by women. Not only are women's works far less shown, but the ones that are are sold for far less than their male counterparts.

There are many theories as to why this is, but no real explanation.

However, it's clear to me that if women are paying the same money for supplies, for studios, for their art education and for everything else, but earning less and with less chance of success, then it's going to take a very long time to even the playingfield.
